“Wish I knew back then, what I know now. Wish I could somehow, go back in time and maybe listen to my own advice...I’d tell her to speak up, tell her to shout out, talk a bit louder, be a bit prouder...tell her she’s beautiful, wonderful, everything she doesn’t see...you gotta speak up, you gotta shout out, and know that right here, right now, you can be beautiful, wonderful, anything you wanna be...Little Me.”

These powerful lyrics are from the song Little Me by the sassy and fabulous Little Mix.

So the question is: “If you could go back in time, what advice would you give to your younger self?”

Standby, this I what I would tell the little me!

I’d tell myself:
~ not to give a damn about what people think of you.
~ surround yourself with real friends and give the fickle ones a wide berth.
~ don’t sweat the small stuff - there is always a solution to your problem - you just need to work your way through it.
~ feel the fear - and do it anyway.
~ don’t worry about what everyone else is doing - just keep focused on your own life.
~ live each day to the full, as you don’t know when it will be your last.
~ never put off until tomorrow, what you can do today.
~ money doesn’t buy you happiness.
~ beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
~ why fit in when you were born to stand out?
~ beauty comes from within.
~ just be the best possible version of you.
~ be kind to yourself, as you would with your family or friends, and properly care for and love yourself.
~ everyone’s life is different; therefore everyone’s journey is different.

This simplistic, ‘no-frills’ shoot was quite nerve wracking, as it was a snapshot of the real me, stripped back and pared down with a barely-there makeup. Daunting stuff and no special effects or full-blown makeup to hide my real or perceived imperfections!

My barely-there makeup look started out at Dorado Studios, Swansea, where the lovely Emily Beth Kelly tinted and curled my eyelashes, which eliminated the need for mascara. For my complexion I mixed factor 50 with a little tinted moisturiser and Scott Barnes Body Bling (the secret behind J Lo’s glow), a dab of Studio 10 Plumping Blush Glow-Plexion and Studio 10 Age Reverse Perfecting Lip Liner.

My hair was wet and just spritzed with Sachajuan Ocean Mist.

One comfy lounge suit later, and I was all set to face the camera, ready to impart my infinite wisdom on my younger self.
